Doing the penetration properly
Every roof type has a specific flashing kit, and the difference between a skylight that lasts twenty years and one that leaks in its third monsoon is almost always whether that kit was used and installed in the correct sequence with the underlayment.
We frame, flash and finish the opening so that water is shed over the assembly rather than relying on sealant to hold a joint together.

In a climate like ours, glazing choice matters. Modern low-E and impact-rated units bring daylight into a room without the solar heat gain that made older skylights so unpleasant in July, and Solatube tubular units light interior rooms and hallways that no conventional skylight could reach.
